Julie's Peace Alphabet So Far

Tonight, I decided to line up the blocks for the Peace Alphabet.

I'm not quite up-to-date. I'm planning to print as many letters as I can and then go back in and stitch some details.
E and F
E, F, G, L
Flock of "L"s
J and I

MNOPQ

Here are the next set of my letters including an experiment with cutting out the letter instead of using ink and a  Chinese brush.  Interesting.
I have begun to think about how I will present them and I feel quite excited about the concept.  Hopefully I will be able to convert the concept to reality.

I have also made progress toward my 1000 cranes.  700 made!  Only 300 to go.  It has been nice using recycled paper to achieve these cranes.  Things like shopping dockets, library notices, out of date pamphlets etc.  I will be using some of them in my presentation of the letters.  My original thought was to try to use them all but it is logistically impossible I think, unless I made a curtain of them.  Hmmm now that's a thought.

Looking for Peace Somewhere, Sometime, Everywhere, All times

Each day I wonder is it worth reading the news? Each day I wonder what will I see on the television with world news? Is it better to just surround yourself with your own world? Should we shut ourselves away from it all? Whose eyes should we see the world through? Who is talking time out for truth? Is there clarity in any of these such matters? I am pondering! Wondering! Peace is just a simple word!

April barbed wire letter flags

These are my letters for April...weeks 14-17

These are flags for the top 26 countries on the World Watch List -
making people aware of human rights violations against those with Christian beliefs.
Seeking peace for all in these countries.

Noela's next letters

Six letters this month to catch up on some of the extras for the half year - the finished piece will hopefully be revealed at the end of June.

I think I'm all caught up now...

I sat down to review where I was up to last week and found I was a few stragglers behind, but not too far.

So here I am up to date-ish with my letters all the way to P.

And close ups of a few...

It is still a weekly challenge to find peace in the newspaper - and I am interested to see the different contexts in which is appears.  Sometimes the middle-east, sometimes North Korea, sometimes peace treaties...

The quest for peace continues.
I have enjoyed doing these 4 letters as they allowed more of the painted image to be seen, the O acts as a magnifying glass, so as to be able to see the feather close up.

As one will see I still have straight line problems, some black edges wider than others.

As you may have guessed I am particularly fond of nests and feathers.

FOUR LETTERS

Yes, I know, disgracefully late with these, my first letters!

Actually,I am up to L but have simply not had good light and time at the same time. Even these are merely snapped on the kitchen counter.

But I will be doing some repeats. The slightly "fuzzy" look I was aiming for calls for a little more pressure on  the pointy end of the stick. A and C are what I really want so I'll keep going til I achieve that fuzziness.

(I did think of using tissue overlays, but that got to laborious and still didn't look right!)

I'm still undecided as to presentation!

Not sure if you can Panic Peacefully.....

I forgot to post my letter last week so hence I am doing a bulk post with only 19 days until the Japanese Art Exchange I am trying to finish and cross the line. After the Boston bombing this week and the turmoil that entails our letters seem like a very small part in trying to at least get our own heads in focus.
