Cranes in Flight

This is the idea I had from the beginning and I am pleased that I was able to achieve something close to what I had envisaged.  Again it is with the thought of the origami crane being a symbol of peace through the inspiring story of Sadako Sasaki.   In Hiroshima Peace Park there is a statue of Sadako holding a crane with the inscription:
'This is our cry,
This is our prayer,
Peace in the world.'

I have also incorporated one of Sadako's quotes in my presentation.

I have really enjoyed this challenge (although I can't seem to stop making cranes!).

  1. I love it. I do so like the idea that the quest for peace should be a joyous one.

    1. It's great that you feel that because it is exactly what I was trying to achieve.

  4. I like the way you've integrated all the elements of origami, calligraphy and book sculpture. It looks happy, rather than the maudlin face (of peace) we so often see.

    1. It certainly does make it three dimensional doesn't it? It was quite difficult deciding where to put the alphabet without taking away the message. Such a lot going on.

    1. This "sculpture"has a mind of it's own and likes to change as you watch. This can be good - like the cranes have a mind of their own and they are trying to escape. It can also be frustrating when I think that it should be doing something and the sculpture disagrees!

  6. The rules of ALAW say "you must put all the letters together into a final piece of art" - well WOW - you really have created a piece of art! It's beautiful, and I imagine it was pretty challenging to get it looking so good!

    1. Thanks Janet, yes it was pretty challenging to get all the letters in. It is one of the things that I love about ALAW, the challenge really makes you think. I am always astounded by how all the entries are so different but so beautiful.
