1st alphabet A-F

Here are the first 6 letters from my first alphabet.

A little late to the game...

I'm Finnbadger here at blogger, and I have a 'mail art' blog, but am also interested in typography.

 I know I'm a little late to the game, but since I had two alphabets in the works this year, I am in the process of finishing them up after stumbling on this great blog.

I have finished my peace alphabet (it is the peaceful version of my other alphabet).

Here's my peace alphabet:

I decided to name it Pacem (Latin for peace).

I printed the letters back to back, so there are 13 squares. (There are some interested combos, like G & T).

I created hinges and connected the squares together...

There are, of course, plenty of ways to fold them to create a display.

I wanted to see if I could create a useable font, and had a try over at Fontstruct. Easy to use site, you can check it out here: Pacem13 font. Works in photoshop on my MAC, but not microsoft word. 13 comes from the fact that it is 13x13 pixels, so looks closest to my original idea at about 10 pt. I'll try and work on a larger version so that it doesn't size up quite so thick on the lines.

Et voilà les vraies dernières lettres du deuxième alphabet  ;) Je vous explique... Ce vieil alphabet, comme beaucoup d'autres jadis, n'avait pas de "i", pas de "u" ni de "w"... Logique...

And now the latest real letters of the second alphabet of a letter a week ... Let me explain ... This old alphabet, like many other formerly had no "i", not "u" or "w" ... Logic

Et comme j'ai "copié" un alphabet... même si je lui ai ajouté quelques arabesques, je n'ai donc pas écrit de "i", ni de "u", ni de "w"... Mais maintenant, ces lettres manquent quand elles n'y sont pas... A-t-on jamais vu un alphabet amputé d'un "i", d'un "u" ou d'un "w" ? ;)

And as I have "copied" an alphabet ... even if I added him some arabesques, so I did not write "i" or "u" or "w" ... But now, these letters are missing when they are not there ... A Does anyone ever seen an alphabet cut a "i", a "u" or "w"? ;)

Il a donc fallu que je les "invente" moi-même... Enfin... quand je dis "invente"... j'ai surtout "composé"... car comme je ne suis pas spécialiste de la création d'alphabet, surtout ancien, je me suis aidée des tracés de toutes les lettres pour composer les trois qui me manquaient... Donc ce n'est pas rigoureusement exact côté "historique"... Espérons juste que cela ne choque pas à côté des autres lettres...

Here's what happens ... 

Pour le "i", je voulais au départ utiliser le "j", mais cela détonnait à côté... j'ai donc utilisé le tracé vertical du "r" et du "h", puis j'ai ajouté une base comme sur le "h". Pour le haut, j'ai essayé différents motifs des autres lettres, à gauche, le haut du "j" convenait, mais à droite, ça ne me convenait pas alors j'ai inventé pour le coup.

For the "i", I originally wanted to use the "j", but it clashed next ... so I used the vertical layout of the "r" and "h", then I added a base as the "h". For the top, I tried different patterns of other letters, left, the top of the "j" appropriate, but right, it does not suit me so I invented for once.

Pour le "u", j'ai renversé le "n", mais j'ai donné moins de "présence" à la barre verticale et davantage à la courbe. A droite, j'ai utilisé le haut du "k".

For the "u", I flipped the "n", but I gave less "presence" to the vertical bar and more to the curve. Right, I used the top of the "k".

Pour le "w", j'ai inversé le "m" et utilisé un seul côté que j'ai répété puis tracé le tracé gauche du "m" inversé en miroir...

For the "w", I reversed the "m" and used one side I repeated then traced the route of the left "m" inverted mirror ...

Puis j'ai ajouté par-ci, par-là, différents petits motifs pour améliorer la lettre... Bon... Ca ressemble à de la cuisine ou du légo... mais mes lettres sont terminées....

Then I added one by one, various small patterns to improve the letter ... Good ... It looks like the kitchen or lego ... but my letters are completed .... 

Quoi qu'il en soit, maintenant que l'alphabet est terminé... et vraiment terminé... il faut "vraiment" que je trouve une manière de l'assembler... ;)

Anyway, now that the alphabet is finished ... and really finished ... must "really" I found a way to assemble ... ;)

Voici quatre autres lettres qui me rapprochent tout doucement de la fin de l'alphabet... ;)
Les lettres arrondies sont un peu plus difficiles parce que l'arrondi doit être régulier... En même temps, les tracés droits sont difficiles parce qu'elles doivent être parfaitement droites... ;)

Here are four other letters that bring me gently from the end of the alphabet ... ;)

The rounded letters are a little more difficult because the flare must be regular ... At the same time, the plots rights are difficult because they must be perfectly straight ...

Voici les lettres que j'ai travaillées pendant les vacances... heureusement qu'il y a parfois des vacances... ;)

J'ai eu beaucoup de mal avec les droites du X, j'ai du tracer beaucoup de lignes au crayon pour m'aider... mais bon... une fois qu'elles sont gommées...  On ne les voit plus... ;)))

I struggled with the right of X, I can draw a lot of pencil lines to help me ... but ... once they have been erased ... We no longer see ... ;)))

Puisque ce sont les vacances, j'en ai profité pour essayer d'écrire deux lettres de plus pour le deuxième alphabet d'Une lettre par semaine...

Mais il y a encore du boulot, parce que finalement, je n'ai que neuf lettres d'écrites... Je ne suis pas rendue au bout de l'alphabet...

Pendant les vacances précédentes, j'avais réussi à exécuter deux lettres de plus pour le deuxième alphabet d'Une lettre par semaine... Mais j'ai oublié de les poster ici. Depuis la rentrée, j'écris davantage des modèles d'écriture que des lettres-cadeaux... ;)

During the previous holidays, I managed to run two more letters to the alphabet A second letter a week ... But I forgot to post here. Since the beginning, I write more of these writing styles calligraphic lettering ... ;)

Pour l'anecdote, j'avais réalisé une première fois ce "V" qui me semblait correct... J'ai donc gommé le crayon de bois qui avait servi aux préparatifs et j'ai voulu donner une petite pitchenette pour chasser  les derniers déchets de gomme... Et j'ai envoyé valser la lettre elle-même qui a atterri... dans un récipient d'eau... Vous imaginez bien que le brou de noix, ravi d'avoir trouvé un ami pour jouer, s'est dilué dans l'eau... Il ne m'est resté qu'à recommencer... :(

Et on ne rit pas ! :-P

For the record, I realized for the first time this "V" that seemed right to me ... And I sent the letter waltz itself that landed ... in a water container ... You can imagine that the walnut, delighted to have found a friend to play, is diluted in the water ... Je continue à travailler le deuxième alphabet d'Une lettre par semaine... Mais il faut se faire à l'idée que cet alphabet va être très irrégulier... ;)

Là, j'ai travaillé le "L" et le "T", qui ont l'avantage d'être verticaux... mais j'ai eu du mal avec les transversales et les obliques... Bah... Il faut juste travailler... ;)

Voici deux lettres de plus de ce deuxième alphabet. Je vais être irrégulière car c'est un peu long à travailler. De plus je ne travaille pas les lettres dans l'ordre alphabétique, mais en regroupant celles qui ont des tracés similaires (vagues, traits droits, cercles...) de manière à travailler plus longtemps les mêmes gestes plutôt que me disperser..

Here are two more letters of the second alphabet. I'll be irregular because it's a bit long to work. Furthermore I do not work the letters in alphabetical order, but by grouping those with similar paths (waves, straight lines, circles ...) to work longer the same gestures rather than going through the same motions in all directions ..

J'ai enfin commencé mon deuxième alphabet... Il y a déjà quelques mois que j'ai eu cette idée, mais je crois que la crainte de la difficulté m'a un peu "retardée"...  Finalement, je m'y suis mise, mais je crois qu'avec le nombre d'heures nécessaires à l'écriture de cette lettre, je vais mettre du temps à finir tout l'alphabet... ;)

I finally started my second alphabet ... A few months ago I had this idea, but I think the fear of difficulty was a bit "slow" ... Finally, I got into it, but I think with the number of hours needed to write this letter, I will take time to finish the whole alphabet ... ;)

Je voulais travailler ces lettres-cadeaux et je pense que la régularité nécessaire à "une lettre par semaine" me permettra de progresser petit à petit...

Voici l'album que j'ai réalisé avec les lettres sur le thème de la paix...

J'ai ajouté des citations en écriture "Anglaise" et en "onciale" ainsi que quelques motifs imprimés et quelques décorations...

Du coup, je mets aussi les deux dernières lettres de l'alphabet.

Et en théorie, j'ai maintenant beaucoup de temps pour m'occuper du deuxième alphabet... ;) mais je n'en dirai rien pour le moment... Ce sera une surprise... Il n'y en a plus tant au fil d'un alphabet, je peux bien faire un peu de cachotterie avant...

Maintenant il ne me reste plus qu'à trouver le moyen de relier ces lettres de la paix pour qu'elles deviennent une composition et puis voilà...
